Zorb Soccer

A few years ago I saw this crazy video  featuring “Zorb Soccer”.  It consisted of a massive transparent ball that encompasses someone’s body as a protective bubble.  Then a soccer game is played where the traditional soccer ball and goals are in play, but each player is a ball in and of themselves.

At the time I was first exposed to this video I did a search online to find anyone that might be renting these crazy little toys but, unfortunately, found nothing.  Recently I was brainstorming some fun date ideas and the Zorb Soccer concept came to mind.  I looked it up, and sure enough there was a local company, Plan-It Rentals, that are renting these out for a daily fee.

The next step was to recruit a team. We started reaching out to other couples in the neighborhood to see if anyone was interested.  We quickly discovered that the interest went far beyond our own curiosity but many couples were willing to donate to the cause, defraying the cost, and making it a very affordable date night.

This was our end method.  We had 8 couples interested in joining us for Zorb Soccer.  We rented 1 ball per couple and sized it based on matching individuals of similar size and renting 1 Zorb ball per couple.  The theory was we would sub out and divide teams up so that same size people could share a Zorb.  We had each couple Venmo us funds for 1 ball to solidify their commitment and we rented and picked up the balls (bring a vehicle with some storage space as it filled all but the front seats of our 3 row SUV).

In reality focusing on soccer was very difficult.  After a few minutes of attempting a formal game basically the game converted into bumper cars with people colliding and focusing solely on attempting to knock other players off their feet.  The balls were extremely hot when running around the gym, but it was loads of fun.  The only issues that came up was related to knees.  There were several people that had floor burns and bruising of the knees by the end of the night… which was unfortunate.

That stated these crazy little protective bubbles are in fact as cool as they look. They are comfy inside and (minus some knee issues) virtually invincible little bubbles of awesomeness.  Gather some friends and give it a go.  We strongly recommend it!
