Bells Canyon, Swimming Pool, and some Hawaiian Food

Plans change and sometimes it is fun to just go with it.  We were  planning to hike the living room this weekend up in Salt Lake, but as we were driving Jared mentioned that maybe it would be fun to do a longer hike (because last weeks was just a little jaunt as well) and return to a hike out that we have not done for years,  Bells Canyon.  We were positive that the kids would be excited for this one.

What we did not take into account was that we had one who was wearing hiking sandals instead of shoes because we originally were going to hike somewhere we did not expect snow, and he loves his sandals.  This hike, however, was not snow free.  In fact, there was a lot of snow.  Initially there was a bit of snow and slush but pretty quickly we were on dry(ish) ground.  Once we passed the lake and were heading up to the waterfall the snow became super thick and our boy with the sandals called it quits.  He was done.  I was not however and neither was the oldest boy.  So Jared and the two youngest hung out and played while the oldest and I went up the mountain.

The hike up to the waterfall was a slippery, sliding, wet mess of fun.  We made it to the Lower Falls and it was beautiful.  Currently it is definitely not running at full capacity but I am sure that it will be flowing much more as all the snow starts melting.  Down a went a lot quicker then going up.  We were either “shoe Skiing”, sliding on our butts, or almost running because you needed to keep your feet moving or you would slip and fall.  It was a great time, full of laughter and close calls.  It was nice to have the one on one time with my oldest boy.  He really is an amazing young man and I feel lucky to have had yet another moment to realize the wonderful man he is turning into. (On All Trails, they rate this hike as hard and say it is 6 miles round trip)

We were given a night stay at the SpringHill Marriott at Thanksgiving Point.  The boys were excited because it has a pool and they were ready to play and swim.  I was excited because it had a hot tub and I was ready to relax a little.  It was nice to be away for a night, even if it was not too far from home.  This hotel is nice, it is located close to Traverse Shopping Plaza, right next to Thanksgiving Point, and lots of little eateries to choose from.

We chose to eat at Mo’Bettahs Hawaiian food.  The service is quick and they get you through the line fast.  The food was fantastic.  I could not eat all my food and was able to split it for 2 meals.  Not surprisingly, the husband and boys on the other hand were able to finish theirs in one sitting.

This weekend was a nice little get away.  It is fun to be in nature, even when you are slipping and sliding on snow and ice, and it is nice to just get away and relax.  Life is full of adventures.  Go out and find what makes your soul feel free… and do it!  Love the life that you have, and remember to laugh and smile as much as you can along the way.

Mother, wife, friend. I love most to take adventures with my family. That can be hiking, cooking, exploring, or whatever. Being a mom is the biggest and most fulfilling adventure I have ever been on. I want to share my journey and love with anyone who is willing to listen
