Pottery Class

We gave our children 2 options for Christmas this year, they could get stuff, or they could choose to have an experience of some kind.  Most of them chose an experience.  Our youngest really wanted to take a pottery class.  I started to look up what the city had to offer, and there was not much for kids.  So I then went to see if there were any local studios.  I made a few phone calls and few provide classes for kids as young as my 11 year old.  They did not think that kids that age were mature enough for it.  However, there was one studio, right here in Spanish Fork, that did offer classes for youngsters.  I signed him up, crossed my fingers, paid for it, and hoped with all my heart this was a good decision (and would not be over his head).

You should have seen his face when he learned that his Christmas gift was pottery classes.  Every day he kept asking when the class would start.  I had to remind him that we had to wait for Christmas break to be over before he started.  The week of his first class, he kept asking me, “do you know what happens on Wednesday?”  It might have gotten a little obnoxious at times, but he was so excited I just played along with it.  The day came for his first class and I have never seen him so happy.  When he left he was floating.  His instructor is the most patient person, and makes it so fun for him.  His self esteem has grown since he has taken these classes.  I was afraid that the excitement might die down after a few classes, but it has not. Each week, he is as excited as he was the first .  I could not have asked for a better class or teacher for my son.

This studio is run by a young couple.  Up until recently they hadbeen running their studio in their backyard.  Recently they were able to by Wildflower Ceramics and Pottery, and have moved the studio over there.  I admire these two very much.  We tell our children to follow their dreams and do what they love.  To be honest, as our kids get older, at least for me, I try to tell my kids to follow a more practical approach and in the end it seems like I have contradicted myself and almost not want my kids to follow what they really love.  Why is that?  This couple has jump right in and did follow their dreams.  They are working hard to keep their studio going and adding to the arts of our amazing city here in Spanish Fork.  When you visit, most of the time if they are both there, so is there sweet inquisitive little daughter, who they are teaching by example to follow and go for her own dreams.

I encourage everyone to go support this studio.  Whether you just go to paint some ceramics or to take a pottery class, you will not be disappointed.  I  truly believe in supporting our local business.  I have loved getting to know this family and most of all I have loved seeing my son grow in so many ways because of them.
