Slopes at Sundance

The kids have been asking to hit the slopes for months now.  It has been a few years since they have gone skiing/snowboarding.  To be honest, I always send my husband with them and I find an excuse to not go.  I have not been on any slope since before we were married and that was about 20 years ago now.  So to be honest, I have been afraid of how pathetic I might be up there.

Sucking up my pride, I finally caved in and went with the kids and the hubby this past Monday.  I still had my reservations.  Cost, gear, time off of work, or anything else I could think of I threw out attempting to procrastinate this day.  It finally arrived though.  We had most of the gear already and luckily we had a neighbor who lent us one of his snowboards.  So now that we had 4 snowboards in tote, all we needed were a set of skis for one boy and 2 sets of boots.  Not too shabby.  So we rented the rest of our gear at 2 Tracks in Orem, I think it came to a nominal $26 for a pair of skis and some snowboard boots.

Cost can be a big prohibitive factor to hitting a ski resort.  Five of us on the slopes at once was not going to be cheap.  Luckily Jared went with a friend a few weeks ago and he already bought 2 discounted tickets at Costco, so he still had one left.  Now it was just paying for me and 3 kids.  Utah has some amazing programs for students.  One is for 5th and 6th graders, if you are going to hit the slopes more then once a year and would like to see a variety of resorts, I would say this is a great deal.  In that it is late in the year a we did not go this route, we went directly with Sundance themselves.  If you buy your tickets in advance, you can get some great deals.  The 2 littles only cost us about $24 each and to be honest, for the last 2 we needed, it was cheaper to go online and purchase directly from the Sundance website then it was to purchase from Costco (saving roughly $30 from a full price ticket, and $10 less than Costco per ticket).

The day on the slopes was a blast.  Having been away for so long I feared I would have forgotten everything, yet I was still at about the same level as my boys.  Which was good, because we all just stayed together.  We had lots of laughs and falls that day together.  Except for the old man, he still has his skills and was super tolerant of all of us.  I am so grateful for him.

We were all a little sore for the next couple of days, but it was so much fun and I am grateful that I was able to swallow my pride and enjoy this day and make memories with my kids that we will all cherish years from now.
